Our History

Experience alone cannot be the measurement of a company. It is how this history translates into benefits for customers that is the true measure of an organisation's potency. Since its inception, Molapo, which means 'river' in Setswana, has gathered experience just as a river's tributaries add to its strength.

The Company was established in 1996 as a professional services organisation, and grew rapidly primarily due to a dynamic management team, teamwork and the caliber of our electronic engineers. However, there was a growing demand for us to also establish a research, design and development centre as well as a sophisticated electronic repairs workshop.

Telecom Operations were at the same time realising, as were most other industries, that having in house repair facilities and maintaining these was a specialised discipline and not part of their core competencies. Telkom decided to outsource this side of its business and in 2000, against fierce competition, Molapo took over Telkom SA's state-of-the-art repair facilities and qualified staff, and became Molapo Technology (Pty) Ltd. This gave us the added muscle to meet the most exacting demands. Subsequently, Molapo was appointed Telkom's sole repair and logistics service provider, and agreement we honour to this day.

In 2002 market research identified serious opportunities in Europe and the United States, prompting the opening of our commercial offices in the UK and USA. For the first time these markets were offered a single service centre, which could provide a low cost, best-in-class, high quality, third party repair solution. Molapo soon made significant inroads into Europe and the US while flourishing further up Africa and into the Middle East where our offices service international clients whose repairs are all carried out in our South African workshops.

In December 2004 Molapo Technology was awarded a contract as exclusive repair service provider to one of Europe's largest service providers.

Recently, Molapo has ventured into the repair of mobile terminal equipment, and is the only authorised repair centre for Huawei terminal equipment in South Africa. Molapo is also an Authorised Service Centre (ASC) for WYSE IT products in South Africa.
